‘Slash School Fees by 60 Percent’-LASU Students to Governing Council

By on June 18, 2014

The several  school fees reduction protests staged by the students of Lagos state university seemed to have yielded remarkable result as the Government of Lagos state, Babatunde Fashola announced the reduction by 30-60% . The  fees was increased in 2011 from N25, 000 to N198, 000 for humanities and education, while medical students paid N350, 000. The students, however want a further decrease. Mr Nurudeen Yusuf, the Students’ Union President, told NAN that the union was discussing with the Governing Council on the fees reduction.

“It would be fair if the Governing Council works with the 60 per cent across board, rather than the 34 per cent,’’ he said.

Nurudeen said the students were not satisfied with the 34 per cent reduction because students paying N198, 000 would still pay about N131, 000.

“The fees will be affordable if the reduction is done at 60 per cent, and it would do the students a lot of good.”
